I Walked with Heroes: The Other Aspects of Warfare

The book I Walked with Heroes written by Jerry A. Guzzetta is an exploration of the term “War”. Often treated as something filled with glory and ambitions, The author aims to provide another angle to the word’s meaning, depicting the darker, and the more brutal reality of conflicts and wars. The book is also a heartfelt tribute by the author to the veterans of war who’ve laid their lives for the country.

The section of the book touches the readers, and informs them about the other aspects of warfare, and how the soldiers and combats kill time, and find refreshments amidst the time of disaster. The author writes about his experiences in Vietnam, where he encountered numerous things and met some of the most unusual people having an influential position. Recalling the time when he and another one of his comrades used to share a room that had a bar next door, with some beer and other refreshments that would ease their nerves in a situation of a war for some time. He humorously mocks the individuals from CIA to be “Clowns in Action” because of the rather weird things they would do, and eventually steal all the credits of actual veterans if they died while in service. This section also reflects on the sense of unity, and brotherhood the comrades make within themselves. Serving the country thousands of miles away from home with the slimmest of chances to make it alive, the author recalls the militias realizing this and making the best out of their time with each other. The author also highlights the negative impacts of war on the minds of a serving militant. As he recalls answering someone’s question of when was the last time you went to Vietnam with the words “Last night”. These weren’t mere words, as they reflect heavily on the psychological affect one can get after witnessing a war first hand.

The book I Walked with Heroes written by Jerry A. Guzzetta tells a reader about the horrors of war, and tries to build a narrative that a war isn’t as easy and glorious as it is portrayed in the mainstream. If you’re looking to know more about the veterans, and what they had to go through to ensure our freedom, check out the book right now as it is available to be purchased on Amazon readily!
